What do plastic bottles, tin cans, and paper all have in common? As elementary students learned this week, all of these items can be recycled! The student leadership team (STUCO) challenged the students in grades 1-5 to encourage recycling in the school by creating digital posters. Each class was asked to submit one poster that will be displayed in the school. Some classes created one collaborative poster while other classes created one poster per student or in small groups and voted on their favorite. This video that Ms. Anjana shared inspired many: This project was the perfect refresher for digital drawing using the Paint program that all students are familiar with. Excitingly, this was also a chance to introduce a new tool: Google Draw. This Google App has the drawing, painting, and shape making capabilities of Paint but brings in new aspects as well like editing text, importing images directly from Google search, and advanced editing tools. Google Draw, like the other Google Apps, also allows for collaboration where multiple people can work on the drawing (on different computers) all at once. This was a hit with the 4th and 5th graders as they quickly picked it up and expertly used it for the first time.
